Assignment 6

Bread Your freckles speckled all across,  your soft skin that makes it feel like Touching cats or clouds or cotton candy, a Warm sensation. it feels alive. Although your being is filled with endless holes,     endless suffering, You feel alive. living,     breathing. Mindless lingering. An existence that seemed worthwhile until it wasn’t any longer. Now your golden complexion  turns Black. You’ve become a stone, no longer the same, just a Silhouette of the person you were before. As these thoughts loiter through my mind, I wonder. How can I   care for you,     treasure you, Respect you, When I Tear you apart     only to Break you     and     Consume you as a whole. Devouring,     torturing, Murdering          you.

Assignment 5

I feel like poetry is a good way for the poet to express themselves and their ideas. Through the use of words and symbolism, I think that they are able to convey their thoughts and emotions in a very beautiful way. Even if there are different interpretations of the same poem, the fact is they portrayed their thoughts and understanding in the poem, so the different variations of its meaning shows just how personal a symbolist poem can truly be.    The hardest part for me personally was that I didn't really understand the concept of how to write the poem, so I don't think I did a very good job. Since English is still a bit difficult to write in as well, expressing my thoughts and ideas were that much harder as the symbolism I wanted to use didn't really make any sense. As I learn more about poetry through this class as well as other poems, my wish is to be able to write a decent poem that reflects even a small part of my true intentions For now however, I hope I was able to

Assignment 4

A deafening silence fills the room. Time is standing still. The library's bookshelves are leering overhead, Its books now raining down on the flowing carpet. Falling books, Falling motivation, Falling mind. These dictionaries no longer hold any meaning, As the mind that uses it is there no more. The library is supposed to represent someone's mind, with the bookshelves symbolizing their focus and motivation. As the books fall, so does that person's will to continue moving forward.

Assignment 3

To me, I think that meaning is only important in poetry if that is the main focus of the poet. This is because the poem is whatever both the poet and the audience wants it to be. If the audience desires meaning where there is none, it is possible for them to create their own meaning. I believe the same principle applies for the visual arts, as the art piece is meant to be enjoyed, and when studied various meanings may come out. Understanding the meaning of art shouldn't be a difficult  thing to do, as the meaning of art is for it to be enjoyed by the people who encounter it. Depending on the piece, the deeper meaning/ message may or may not be important, but as far as trying "too hard" to understand meaning, I think that is when the individual finds themselves so involved in understanding the meaning that they don't appreciate/ enjoy the piece any longer. Personally, I like my illustrations to have some form of meaning in them, as I enjoy drawing and creating it mor

Assignment 2

To me, a good poem is one that uses words to create a form of imagery, or evokes a sense of emotion. A poem should be whatever the poet would like it to be, and I think that as long as they are pleased with it, I believe the result is successful. Personally, when I write I like to start with a plan, since it makes it easier to organize my thoughts. Without it, whenever I write I have to keep rearranging the sentences and words to fit better. For poems however, I have to think of a topic/ direction I want to go with; for instance, I need to know that I will be writing about birds if that was what I was going to do. After that, I just think of the words and actions associated with the topic, and am able to write. While I don't understand a lot about poetry, I think this method makes me enjoy writing it, even if it doesn't end up being a good poem. With all my writing, I need to do it in a quiet place so I can focus properly, like the library. I don't have any particular &qu

There is a great shadow cast upon me; A grand figure standing tall. I think to myself, Infinite, unwavering: My will shall not shake. A light from this darkness shall spring. This eternal mind shall remain, As I am the ruler of my own fate.
